From the renowned Fazendas Dutra in Brazil’s Matas de Minas region, we are excited to introduce a special microlot from their Sítio Água Limpa plot. Managed by brothers Ednilson and Walter Dutra, this farm is a leader in sustainable and organic coffee production, recently becoming only the second in Brazil to achieve Regenerative Organic Certification. This certification highlights their commitment to soil health, animal welfare, and social fairness, honouring the legacy started by their father, Zeca Dutra, in 1950.

This particular lot showcases the rare Oeiras variety, a natural mutation of Yellow Bourbon discovered in the state of Espirito Santo. Carefully harvested and prepared using the natural process, this coffee is a testament to the Dutra family's dedication to quality and innovation. It represents a unique opportunity to taste an expressive and experimental coffee from a producer at the forefront of regenerative agriculture.

In the mountainous Matas de Minas region of Brazil, brothers Ednilson and Walter Dutra are the second-generation stewards of Fazendas Dutra, a farm that has become a benchmark for sustainable and quality-focused coffee production. Their work is a continuation of a legacy that began in 1950, when their father, José "Zeca" Dutra, started with a single hectare. Today, the brothers have transformed that humble beginning into a world-renowned estate, driven by a commitment to honor their father's memory through innovation and environmental respect.

This commitment is most profoundly demonstrated by their recent achievement of Regenerative Organic Certification (ROC), making them only the second producer in all of Brazil to earn this distinguished standard. Achieving ROC involved a complete overhaul of their farming philosophy, focusing on creating a self-sustaining ecosystem. They have implemented diverse cover cropping and minimized tillage to prevent soil erosion and build fertility. The farm’s biodiversity is enhanced by a variety of shade trees, including native species, African mahogany, and thousands of avocado trees, which create a rich habitat for wildlife. Furthermore, Fazendas Dutra relies entirely on rainwater, using mulching and terracing to maximize water retention. The social pillar of the certification is equally important, ensuring fair wages, safe working conditions, and access to healthcare and education for all workers.

The Dutra brothers’ dedication to the land is matched by their pursuit of exceptional coffee quality. Their efforts were recently recognized on a national stage when they secured 7th place in the prestigious 2024 Brazil Cup of Excellence competition with a honey-processed Geisha from their Sítio Boa Vista plot. While they produce consistently excellent lots of classic Brazilian varieties like Catuai and Bourbon, they also dedicate plots like Sítio Água Limpa to more expressive and experimental coffees. This microlot of the rare Oeiras variety, carefully prepared using the natural process, is a perfect example of this innovative spirit, offering a unique taste of a farm that is truly shaping the future of sustainable coffee.
